Head coach for one matchSlagelse DT’s usual assistant coach, Peter Bruun Jørgensen, was promoted head coach for the quarterfinal game in Ljubljana. Anja Andersen was banned together with her Krim counterpart, Robert Begus after the two coaches incident at the first leg.
Slagelse’s caretaker coach was successful with a 28-26 victory in the Hala Tivoli. SDT reached the semi-finals with a 58-49 aggregate win. Eurohandball.com talked with the successful coach.
Eurohandball.com: How did you see the match?
Peter Bruun Jørgensen: I think we did extremely well and made Krim work hard for their goals from the start. Bojana Popovic did very well and so did Carmen Lungu, while Katarina Bulatovic and Cecilie Leganger improved a lot for the second half.
Eurohandball.com: What was it like for you to be head coach in this match?
Peter Bruun Jørgensen: I thought it was great fun. There was a fine atmosphere in the hall, I think. Furthermore, we got what we came for. We played a great match where we were particularly strong in our established defence. For great parts of the match Krim scored practically only on counter attacks.
Eurohandball.com: You claimed before the match that you would not try to defend your seven-goal lead from the first match, but go for another win. So the victory probably did surprise you…
Peter Bruun Jørgensen. I think that what happened to Aalborg Friday proves that you can never feel sure in European top handball. But then again, we are more experienced than Aalborg and I felt that we had a good grip on things all the way.
Eurohandball.com: Still, you were four goals down towards the end of the first half. Did you ever doubt that you would reach the semi-finals? Peter Bruun Jørgensen: No, not at all. I was really calm all the way, as I felt that we were in control all the time.
Eurohandball.com: Apart from you home defeat to FTC Budapest at the last group match, your team have shown increasing form during the Champions League campaign so far. Do you agree?
Peter Bruun Jørgensen: Yes, definitely. I think that we are at the level where we should be at this stage. TEXT: Peter Bruun |
