Aalborg Merger Called OffDespite earlier announcement, Danish CL club, Aalborg DH will not merge with Aalborg’s largest sports club, AaB. On May 8 2007, the two clubs of Denmark’s third largest city announced an agreement on a merger. However, in the following period, the parties have decided to call the merger off. “We are sorry and really regret that the agreement could not be carried out after all,” AaB president, Per Søndergaard said on Monday.
No negative consequences
“This is not going to influence the future of Aalborg DH in any way, and it will not affect our chances in the Champions League qualifiers either,” Jesper Skovsgard, Aalborg DH stakeholder, told Eurohandball.com.
“Our team will be just as strong next season, as it would have been under the name AaB. One or two new players may still join before the start of the new season. In case of a merger, the situation would have been the same,” Jesper Skovsgaard added.
ADH, the club that qualified from the group stage of the Champions League in the last two years, will remain to function as a women’s handball club, while AaB operates top level soccer, men’s handball and ice hockey teams as well. TEXT: Peter Bruun |
