SPANISH CHAMPIONS LOSING STAR TO DENMARK

The Spanish champions and Champions League participants Cementos La Union Ribarroja are losing, what could have been one of their greatest stars. Marta Mangue Gonzales, 23 year old back court player, is leaving the team that has qualified directly for the first group stage of the coming season’s Champions League, where they will be meet ruling champions Slagelse DT among others. Instead the Spanish international, which has previously represented another Spanish top club, BM Mar Valencia, has signed a three year contract with Danish league club Team Esbjerg, who just escaped relegation in the past season. Mangue Gonzales will therefore have to say goodbye to Champions League participation at least for the next year.

Happy chairman

“It is obvious that a player with the handball qualities that Mangue possesses will add a lot of quality, not only to our team, but to the Danish league in general, and she will undoubtedly contribute to attracting more spectators to our matches”, said an obviously happy Esbjerg chairman Bjarne Pedersen, as the contract was officially announced.

Marta Mangue Gonzales is very well known to Danish handball, not least after having been one of the dominating profiles in Ribarroja’s two group games against Aalborg DH in last season’s Champions League. She has played 111 internationals for Spain so far.
