KIEL SQUAD COMPLETE FOR THE NEW SEASON

After the signing of four new players, ruling Champions League winners, THW Kiel can look forward to the coming season with a larger squad than last season. While goalkeeper Henning Fritz has left for Bundesliga team Neckar Löwen (formerly known as Kronau Östringen) at the same time as left back Lars Krogh Jeppesen departed for Danish Bjerringbro-Silkeborg and pivot Pelle Linders signed to another Danish club, FC København, four new faces have appeared in the Kiel squad.

French talent on the circle

An interesting newcomer is 20 year old Igor Anic, who has joined the North German club from former French champions HB Montpellier. “He’s a compact player; a great talent and a French international!” THW director Uwe Schwenker characterised the 196cm and 102 kg pivot.

While Anic seems like the perfect replacement for Swedish international Pelle Linders at the circle, Czech international Filip Jicha seems to be just as fine a successor to Lars Krogh Jeppesen on the left back position. THW already had a three year contract with the 25 year old TBV Lemgo star from next summer, but after negotiations between the two Bundesliga clubs, the start of the contract was moved one year forward, so that Jicha will be representing the CL champions from the coming season. “There was no point in holding on to a player, who wanted to go to Kiel right away”, Lemgo director Volker Zerbe said.

Lund also joins before scheduled

Another player, who has joined Kiel a year before plan, is Norwegian international Børge Lund. The 28 year old playmaker has been released by Bundesliga rivals HSG Nordhorn this summer already, to start a four year contract with the THW.

“At HSG Nordhorn, Børge has already proved that he can maintain an extremely high level on the playmaker position – apart from the fact that he also possesses excellent defensive qualities. He is the kind of playmaker, you would always like to have in your team!”, Kiel coach Zvonimir “Noka” Serdarusic said about 28 year old Lund, who has previously represented Bodö HK in Norway and AaB Håndbold in Denmark before joining Nordhorn last year.

The Kiel squad for the coming season, where there are three titles to be defended, is completed by 19 year old left back Daniel Wessig, who has joined from HC Aschersleben on a three year contract, and who is undoubtedly a man to watch in the future.
