Coming Up: 21st Schlecker Cup

Nine games with six exclusive teams in two days: the 21st Schlecker Cup will be played in Ehingen this weekend. The tournament is a peak of the European handball elite at the hardest performance test of the preparations for the season 2007/08.

The list of the teams says it all: VfL Gummersbach with the top scorer of the handball World championship 2007, Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson, Bundesliga runner-up and EHF Cup Winners’ Cup Winner HSV Handball with four players from the World champion team, Danish future team, FCK Håndbold, EHF Champions League Winner, German Champion and German Cup Winner THW Kiel, French record holder, Montpellier HB, and the Hungarian record holder, MKB Veszprém KC.

Handball withdrawal symptoms will be satisfied at the Laengenfeldhalle with an extra dose of purest handball skills: two group matches on Saturday and one placement match on Sunday for each team. That is the challenge for the EHF Cup participant FCK Håndbold, even more so an important opportunity for the five EHF Champions League participants. Some of them even play in the same group. The sportive quality of the participants requires a hundred percent of a real competition from each player. This is exactly what top teams need for their preparation.

“We are happy about the past twenty years of Schlecker Cup and looking forward to the next twenty years“. These are the closing lines of the editorial in the Schlecker Cup magazine that proves – just as the new homepage – that Schlecker Cup is proud of its tradition and able to renew itself.

By handing over the responsibility from the founding generation of the Schlecker Cup to the generation that has grown up with the Schlecker Cup, the mission has been accomplished. The experience is amended by innovative elements. It all functions as a family enterprise where trust and the personal touch are making the difference. The credibility of the event is based on the voluntary dedication of the organisers who do everything for the guests.
