Promising Form for Aalborg

Aalborg DH seems to be on the right track before the start of the Danish league at the beginning of September and before the Champions League qualifiers coming up on the last weekend of next month.

A few days after beating newly promoted Danish team, Frederikshavn, by 39:28, Aalborg won the 7th round match in the Danish Cup at home against Ikast/Bording EH 30:23.

The match was also a comeback for Rikke Nielsen who arrives from German Bundesliga club, HC Leipzig. Her transfer was finalised a few hours before the match and a happy Rikke Nielsen was allowed to play.

Aalborg in better condition

Leif Gautestad was satisfied with the players3249 spectators in the Gigantium Arena of Aalborg saw quite an equal first half against last season’s EHF Cup finalists (Ikast will also be in the EHF Cup this season). The score at half time was 12-12, but after Ikast started the second half by taking a 14-12 lead, Aalborg managed to decide the matter. Aalborg were apparently in better condition and their coach, Leif Gautestad, had more players to choose from than his colleague.

After 19-18 and 22-19, Aalborg managed to take back the lead and increase it step by step until the final score 30-23.

“Some of our new players did very well, and so did the experienced ones such as Tanja Logvin and Natalia Derriougina. Furthermore, Ana Vojcic saved very well in our goal,” commented Leif Gautestad after the win.

Veteran pivot, Natalia Deriougina, was Aalborg’s top scorer player with 6 goals.
