Disappointment for Viborg´s Men

The men of Viborg lost in the Danish Cup against a lower division side, Lemvig. The CL team will play their next match on Saturday in London.

Disappointment for Viborg´s Men

Hildebrand still has time to get his team in form for the CLOnly three days after beating the prestigious Russian team, Chehovskie Medvedi, 29:28 in the final of the Kielce Cup in Poland, Viborg HK’s men experienced a big disappointment. The first official match of the season, a Danish Cup home game against Lemvig (Danish second division) was lost 25:26.

Viborg coach, Søren Hildebrand, could not count on three young wingers, Jesper Meinby, Stefan Nielsen and Stefan Hundstrup. They are all with the Danish U21 national team at the World Championship in Macedonia, but Mikkel Aagaard and Per Leegaard were also injured. Despite all these difficulties, the defeat was still disappointing.

Lemvig prevail

Lemvig were the better team in the first half, and the visitors were leading 16-12 at half time. After the break, Viborg seemed to wake up and the home team managed to come back to lead 23:21. At the end, however, the Viborg players seemed to have no more idea in their attacking plays and Lemvig managed to run over the hosts and secure a narrow but deserved victory.

Viborg´s new Swedish playmaker, Lukas Karlsson, was top scorer with 9 goals.

Against Veszprém in London

Viborg travels to London on Thursday where they are going to play Hungarian top team, MKB Veszprém, in the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Saturday. The match is intended to boost the interest in handball in Great Britain before the Summer Olympic Games in London.
