Csoknyai: We still have to learn

Veszprém's assistant coach talks to Eurohandball.com. The former player, István Csoknyai, wants the team to learn to win.

Csoknyai: We still have to learn

István Csoknyai, assistant coach of MKB Veszprém, believes that the team caused a difficult situation for themselves. They were not able to make an important step and win the first two rounds of the CL.

Eurohandball.com: Veszprém lost only by two goals in the Kölnarena against Gummersbach. What was the difference between the teams?

The injured Eklemovic and CsoknyaiIstván Csoknyai: It is mostly due to our lack of experience that we could not take a point at least. Unfortunately it was our second match where we could not win the endgame after not being able to keep our advantage at home against Celje. We are in a difficult situation with only one point after two games on the third position of the group table. We will host Valur this weekend and we have to win at all costs as we have not given up our qualification plans yet. However, we only stand a chance for this if we can take a point form Celje or the rivals beat each other. Our situation is very difficult, anyway.

Eurohandball.com: What do you know about the next opponent, Valur?

Csoknyai: Having seen their match against Gummersbach, they are a team that plays quick handball and we have to be aware of it. We have to make this step and win the game to boost the self-confidence of our young team for the last three matches. We have to learn to win, this is the most important, this is the only way to go on from the group.

Eurohandball.com: Everyone is ready for the challenge?

Csoknyai: Our young team performed very well at the pre-season matches. We started the season without really knowing what we are able to do. Unfortunately already at the start we lost Barna Putics who played in great form. He suffered a shoulder injury, while our experienced playmaker, Nikola Eklemovic, was injured against Gummersbach. We have enough problems…
