Hamurg win 31-27 against Magdeburg in the 3/4 Final of the Champions Trophy.

HSV clinch third place

After two disappointing games, the two German sides, SC Magdeburg and HSV Hamburg, wanted to prove against each other in the 3/4 Final.

Jansen was in great form against MagdeburgAccordingly, the match was full of tension and, especially in the first half, it was characterised by strict defending.

Magdeburg started better and took a three-goal lead already in the 7th minute. Martin Schwalb sent on court the tall backcourt player, Pascal Hens in the 14th minute. Though Hens was marked closely, his presence meant a lot for HSV and they levelled the game. It was 14-13 for Magdeburg in the first half.

Wenta replaced Erevik for a couple of minutes after the break, though the goalkeeper was in really good form throughout the game. However, it was mainly due to Torsten Jansen, Bertrand Gille and Hans Lindberg that HSV could take a lead in the upcoming period.

HSV had very good fastbreaks and the difference was five before the 50th minute. Though Sprenger and B. Jurecki tried everything, scored goals and fought hard, there was nothing to do against Hamburg this time.

SC Magdeburg - HSV Hamburg 27-31. HSV take third place with this victory.

Top scorers:
Jurecki 6, Sprenger 5; Lindberg 11, Jansen 7, Yoon 7.

Comments from the coaches

Bogdan Wenta:
We did not expect such a defence from Hamburg and we did not have a chance against it. In addition, we also missed many scoring opportunities. We were lucky in the first half, but not anymore after the break.

Martin Schwalb:
We had a good defence already in the first half and we played well a simple handball. Maybe we were also lucky, but we are happy with the victory.
