Althaus on Viborg's injury list

The good news for Anja Althaus is that she may return by December to play at the World Championships in the German national team.

Althaus on Viborg's injury list

The injury list continues of Viborg grows again. Two playmakers, Kristine Lunde and Jane Schumacher, are injured, just as right winger, Christina Varzaru. They will not return in the near future.

Althaus will be back for the national team, hopefullyNow the pivot, Anja Althaus, is also sidelined. However, her problem may be less lasting. In addition, goalkeeper Katrine Lunde Haraldsen could also only watch Wednesday’s Danish league match from the tribune because of a thigh injury. Viborg won 37-32 at home against Horsens HK.

Anja Althaus picked up a shoulder injury and she was operated in Kiel on Thursday. However, she was quite optimistic herself and she hoped for a short break – less than four weeks.

“With no complications, I still expect to be ready for the World Championship,” the 25-year old German international told the German news agency DPA.

While a four wee break will still keep the possibility open for Althaus to take part at the World Championship in France in December, it will still keep her out of Viborg’s next couple of Champions League matches.

This means more work on the line for Danish international Lene Lund Nielsen, while a 19-year old player, Stina Eriksen, will also have to play more minutes.

Hope for Lunde

While Anja Althaus, who joined Viborg from German Bundesliga club DJK/MJC Trier before this season, will be out for at least a couple of weeks, there is a chance for Katrine Lunde Haraldsen to play on Sunday already against Budocnost T-Mobile.

Viborg must win this game after their 33-30 away defeat against C.S. Oltchim Valcea last Sunday.

“I expect Katrine to be fit for Sunday,” Viborg’s coach Tomas Ryde told Eurohandball.com.
