Valcea's stunning second half
In the second round of Group D, Romanian champions Valcea have beaten Ferencváros by ten goals in Hungary. Olteanu and Maier showed an outstanding performance on the guests’ side, while only goalkeeper Pastrovics was above the average in FTC.
Valcea, among the CL favourites, started the match better and took a quick lead (0-3 in the 5th minute). Ferencváros received many fast break goals due to their week attacking play. The hopes of the home team were kept alive by the saves of goalkeeper Pastrovics and FTC came back to a 2-goal difference by halftime (11-13).
The Hungarians appeared to forget their strength and courage in the locker room for the second half: with the goals of Maier, Valcea showed that FTC can have no chance at all and it was 11-18 already in the 36th minute.
There were many good performances in the team of coach Tadici. Olteanu and goalkeeper Dinu have done especially well. The Romanian side that includes many national players won 22-32 and took their place on the top of the group table.
On the other hand, FTC lose their second game and stands with no point. In addition, the team of coach Zsiga will have little chance to win their next game as all odds will be with Danish Viborg in the next game of the group stage. TEXT: Ildikó Balogh (handball.hu) |
