Lindberg´s successful change

The Danish right winger of Hamburg talks about his successful period with Hamburg.

Lindberg´s successful change

Danish international, Hans Lindberg, left Viborg HK to play for German top team, HSV Hamburg. The adventure that started this summer seems to be a successful one. The 26-year old right winger, who played for Denmark 57 times, has become a regular player in the Bundesliga.

Lindberg had to fight and score six for the victory against ViborgOn Saturday he returned to his former club and played in the Viborg Stadionhal against his former team mates. Hamburg won 30-28 after having had more trouble with the Danes than anyone would have expected. Eurohandball.com talks to Lindberg, who has become first-choice right winger of the Danish national team.

Eurohandball.com: What was it like for you to be back in Viborg Stadionhal?

Hans Lindberg: It was really nice. I have to admit that I was a bit afraid how I would be received, but I would like to give credit to both the Viborg spectators and the fans from Hamburg for creating such a fantastic atmosphere. Fortunately, we got the two points.

Eurohandball.com: Why did you have so much trouble with Viborg handicapped by injuries? Did you underestimate them?

Hans Lindberg: No, I don’t really think we did. Viborg simply played the best they could and some of their players were definitely in top form. We still managed to get the victory…

Eurohandball.com: You have lived a successful period since you left Viborg. What was this change like for you?

Hans Lindberg: It was great right from the start. I could fit in the team quickly as they gave me a hearty welcome. Of course, it also helps a lot that things are going so well on the court, so I can only be content so far.

Eurohandball.com: You are already sure to win your group – even though it is the first ever CL season of the club – and you are also on the top of the Bundesliga. How far can this team get?

Hans Lindberg: Only time can tell, really. We know that it is going to be difficult in the Champions League from now on. We do have a great team, but we also know that we will meet only great teams after the first group stage. As you said, this is our first Champions League ever and our first goal was to qualify for the Main Round. Now that we achieved this goal, we will take one match at a time and see how far that takes us.
