Dijana Golubic looking to the future

Dijana Golubic, right winger of Krim Mercator, talks to Eurohandball.com about her club, the upcoming CL matches and her plans for the future.

Dijana Golubic looking to the future

The 23-year old left-handed player is one of few Croatian handball players whose quality is recognised outside the borders of Croatia. Although she was recently unlucky with injuries, she is back again, very optimistic and more ambitious then ever.

Eurohandball.com: Let’s begin with the worst and the best moments in your handball career!

The return of Golubic is nearing after a long injuryDijana Golubic: The worst moment in my life, for sure, was when my cruciate ligament was torn. The best was getting elected best junior right winger for the third time in a row in FYR Macedonia.

Eurohandball.com: You left Podravka Vegeta and joined Krim Mercator in 2006. After that you had many problems with injuries. How are you now?

Dijana Golubic: I hope this period is behind me now. This year (last season and the beginning of this season) was not very successful for me. I spent more time with rehabilitations then on the handball court and I was not used to that. But the most important thing is that all this is history by now. My performance improves and I can't wait for the next matches.

Eurohandball.com: After four rounds played in Group B, Krim Mercator has only two points. At this moment you are on third place in the group, which is unusual for Krim.

Dijana Golubic:Results this season do not meet the level of Krim. However, my opinion is that the main reason for all these bad results were injuries. And also a new coach and some inexperienced young players arrived to the team. The coach has been working on the best combinations during the entire preparation period. He was preparing us for the Champions League physically, mentally and tactically. And then the injuries came: Bodnieva, Siti, Vergelyuk, Kindl, Oder, Alizar, Stefanisin and I. The young players had to replace the injured ones and that was simply too much pressure on them.

Eurohandball.com: Krim still have two matches to play against Savehof and Zvezda – both games in Ljubljana.

Last season Golubic played against the best players of Europe - here Savic scores against KrimDijana Golubic: Yes, we will play both matches at home and we expect to win and secure third position in our group. This would take us to the Cup Winners’ Cup. With some luck we could also finish second and continue in the Champions League.

Eurohandball.com: This is your second season in Krim. Do you have plans for the future? Would you like to stay in Ljubljana or leave?

Dijana Golubic: First of all, I have to say that everybody in Krim is very nice to me and I feel great here. I would also like to try other leagues and get to know other countries. The truth is that I didn’t have a chance to show my best form yet, so I think the best things for me are just coming. The future is mine.
