The Swedish colony in Kiel is growing by one: after signing goalkeeper Andreas Palicka in January, THW now signed another great talent from the land of the “Three Crowns”.

The 23-year old Larsson signed a three year contract with THW from 2009 to 2012. Currently Larsson plays for the Swedish champion Hammarby, where former Kiel player, Stafan Olsson, is his coach.

“Fredrik Larsson plays very well and has a good eye for his team mates,” THW manager Uwe Schwenker said.

Before joining Hammarby, Larsson played for Skövde and Ystads – and some big clubs in Europe had an eye on him. As Schwenker said, Larsson has been in the focus of Kiel for a long period, but after the Champions League match in Hammarby when Larsson scored eight goals against THW his signing was on the agenda.

“We are very glad, that he signed his contract in Kiel,” Schwenker said. “He is the best possible candidate for the playmaker position.”

Larsson played first matches for the national team against Germany in the preparation for the Euro in Norway, where Sweden finished fifth.
