Fisker receives Viborg contract

Viborg HK have signed contract with left winger Maria Fisker. The talent will be tied to the club until the summer of 2009. In spite of only being 17, Maria Fisker played many CL and Danish league games for Viborg.

In the first place, Maria Fisker was not even expected to play in the league team this season, as she is still a youngster. However, as the normal first-choice left winger, Henriette Mikkelsen, is pregnant and her replacement, Christina Roslyng, was injured for a longer period this winter, there was suddenly a lot of responsibility on the young player. Frisker shared the left wing position with Gitte Aaen recently. The young student is given a contract after having played without one so far.

Great future

Viborg HK’s sports director, Torben Østergaard, is convinced that Maria Fisker can expect a great future.

“It is important for us to have some Danish talents in our squad and Maria possesses a huge potential. She performed on an extremely high level already – in the Champions League as well as in the national league. She is very mature, she knows what she wants and she works real hard to achieve her objectives,” Torben Østergaard said.

“However, we have to take good care of her, considering her young age. Our plan is to make use of her in our league team step by step, enabling her to take over from Henriette Mikkelsen and Gitte Aaen with time,” Torben Østergaard added.

Good environment

“There is a really great training environment in Viborg and I like everything around the club,” Maria Fisker explained upon announcing her new contract.

“I feel that I need people I can learn from, and I can really learn something from the wingers of the club. I have developed a lot lately and especially during the matches. I wish to go on picking up as much experience as I can,” the young winger added.
