Jurack stays with Viborg
After the disappointment of not going on in the CL, Danish Viborg HK – still favourites to return to the CL next season – may find some consolation already. One of their greatest players decided to stay with the club
German international Grit Jurack has extended her contract with Viborg for another three years – the longest period allowed in Denmark. Her new contract with the club will be valid until the summer of 2011.
“I simply love to play in Viborg. To me, this is the best possible club to play for,” said the 30-year old left-handed backcourt player, characterised by the Viborg management as “the world’s best right back”.
“The facilities in the club are extremely professional and the club does all it can to give us the best possible basis for being successful on court,” Jurack added.
Expecting improvementThe management of Viborg expects Grit Jurack to improve in the years to come.
“Considering the ambitious objects we have – staying in the absolute top of Europe – we also need to have the best players. Grit is one of the greatest players in the world and she would be an enormous value of any top club. We are, of course, extremely happy to extend our contract with her, as it is also in accordance with our basic wish for continuity in our squad,” Viborg HK’s sports director, Torben Østergaard, said as the deal was announced.
During her first four years with Viborg, Grit Jurack scored 720 goals in 136 matches. In the German national team she holds the all-time goal record with 1316 goals in 250 internationals. At the 2007 World Championship she was one of the best players of the German team winning the bronze medal.
Jurack started her career in the Bundesliga club HC Leipzig. She is also quite familiar with Danish handball after playing for Ikast earlier. Viborg signed Jurack from Leipzig. TEXT: Peter Bruun |
