"If we beat Leon, anything can happen"
Everything is arranged fort he decisive game of Group 1 of the Main Round. The situation is clear before the game on Thursday at 19:15hrs in the THW Kiel arena where the hosts will step on court in front of 10.000 fans against Ademar Leon: if the title holder win or get a draw from the game and they qualify for the semi-finals. If the fourth ranked team of the Asobal League would win, they would make it among the top four teams.
“We want to win the Champions League again,” says THW’s star, Kim Andersson. “If we beat Leon, anything can happen.”
Karabatic warns his teammates: “All our opponents play better when they come to us than at home, just as Chekhov did, for example.”
The Bundesliga side will not take it easy for sure. The day when THW lost the away game by 24:28 is not forgotten by coach “Noka” Serdarusic: “That was a totally hectic afternoon in Leon.”
“Our defence was not consequent enough, and in offense we missed too many chances. We were not able to concentrate,” analysed THW back player, Filip Jicha. “We made the mistake to think too much about the missed scoring opportunities.”
The Zebras will play this important game with their best line-up. One important THW member will be missing, however. Club manager, Uwe Schwenker, suffered and Achilles injury on Sunday evening (after the 31:28 success against Gummersbach in the Bundesliga) while jumping rope and after a successful operation he will only watch the handball highlight on TV.
“I expect victory,” – Uwe Schwenker hopes that the team will help his recovery with this. TEXT: Jan Kirschner and Björn Pazen |
