The French side will play their last match in a good atmosphere after taking a giant step in their domestic league.


Montpellier to pay Velenje back

Although Montpellier were the only team to defeat Ciudad Real in the CL so far, their semi-final hopes ended in Gummersbach. Just before the last round of the Main Round, the Spaniards and the Germans will decide who will go to semi-finals, while Montpellier will have to fight with Gorenje Velenje for the third place of Group 2.

Mlakar scoring in VelenjeThe derby of the French Championship was played by Chambery and Montpellier last weekend and the visiting Montpellier have won by 33:34 (19:14). The home team played well in the first half, but the guests were much better in the second. Finally, the goals of Wissem Hmam and Bojinovic decided the match. By winning this derby, Montpellier took a giant step towards winning the French Championship.

Wissem Hmam scored 10 and Mladen Bojinovic scored 9 goals for Montpellier. Daouda Karabue also demonstrated his skills with saving 15 shots. The best scorers of the home team were Daniel Narcisse and Laurent Busselier with 7 goals each.

The team of Patrice Canayer have to say goodbye to the CL. Montpellier will play for prestige and for the third place against Gorenje. As they are on top of the French Championship, they will probably try again in the CL next year.

In addition to playing for the third place, the French team will also try to take revenge. Their first match in Velenje ended with a 33:28 in favour of the home team. Canayer and his players hope that they can win this time and reward their fans with a victory for their support.

The match Montpellier vs. Gorenje Velenje will be played on Saturday at 19:00 hours. The referees will be Csaba Dobrovits and Péter Tájok from Hungary. The French Sport + will broadcast the match live.
