Zvezda writing history?
To win EHF Cup in very first European season and to reach the CL semi-finals in the second are remarkable results. Knowing the immense appetite for success of Evgeni Trefilov, this is not enough…
Surprising defeatSo far Zvezda played high level handball against the best Danish teams, Viborg and Slagelse. Only Hypo were too difficult for them as the Austrian team defeated Zvezda both times.
But that's not the only bad news for Trefilov. Just before the important matches of the Russian play-offs, Lada Togliatti defeated Zvezda in Zvenigorod by 31:30. Nobody in Zvenigorod saw that coming. Their biggest problem was defence.
If the Russian team want to stand a chance against Győr on Sunday, they need to improve their defence and show more of the Russian fighting spirit. They don't have much time to get themselves together and Trefilov would hardly raise white flag.
Görbicz injured
During the final of the Hungarian Cup between Györ and Dunaferr, Anita Görbicz suffered an ankle injury. She was carried off from the pitch in pains. The player will have to miss one month from this important stage of the competition, so it is likely that she cannot play at both semi-final games. In the last two CL matches Győr were beaten by Lada and Oltchim also because of a minor injury of Görbicz who was not 100% ready to play. This new injury of the playmaker may also strongly influence the outcome.
Match Zvezda Zvenigorod vs. Győr will be played on Sunday in Chekhov. The referees will be Peter Brunovsky and Vladimir Canda from Slovakia. TEXT: Ivan Ambros |
