2008/09 Women’s Champions LeagueOn Tuesday, July 1, 2008, the draws for the qualification rounds 1 and 2 of the 2008/09 EHF Women’s Champions League as well as the draw for the right for the organisation of each group were carried out at the EHF-headquarters in Vienna. On Friday, July 4, 2008, the draw for the Group Matches was held in Gothenburg in a joint event together with the draw for the EHF Men’s Champions League. As we informed on July 3, 2008, the draw for the Group Matches could have resulted in a situation, which would not allow to draw or to assign the groups of the Qualification to the Group Matches of the Champions League before the qualifications is actually concluded. Therefore the exact procedure of assigning the groups was described in our information letter of July 3, 2008. However, the outcome of the draw of last Friday, in fact, does allow to assign the groups of the qualification round 2 to the groups of the Champions League Group Matches. Therefore and in order to have a clear situation as early as possible, please find below mentioned the assignment of the teams of the qualification round 2 to the groups of the Champions League according to the procedure, which is explained once again just a s a reminder: "The winner of each qualification group will be assigned to the Champions League Groups according to the seeding in pot 1 of Round 2 of the qualification. Consequently, the winner of qualification group 3 (the group with Ikast as the top seed) will go to the first possible Champions League group in an order “from left to right” which means from group A to group D. Next will be the winner of group 4 (the group of Dunaferr), followed by the winner of group 1 (the group of Itxako) and finally the winner of group 2 (the group of Byasen)." The groups of the Qualification Round 2 are therefore assigned as follows: Group A: TEXT: EHF |
