Benfica defeated BregenzBenfica Lisboa defeated Bregenz by 38:34 (19:17). The Portuguese team never reached the CL group stage before. Now they are just one step away from the biggest success in the club’s history. The guests started well and soon took a 8:4 lead. The home team equalised at 12:12 and managed to win the first half with by 19:17. In the second half everyone expected an answer from the Austrian champions was expected. Surprisingly, Benfica increased the margin to 22:17. The Austrians came close in the 50th minute (29:30), but they did not have the strength to do more. At the end the Portuguese scored some easy goals and concluded the match with the margin of four goals. Pedroso scored 10 goals, Carneiro and Silva scored 9 goals each. In Bregenz Hojc scored 10 goals, Schlinger 7 and Mayer 6 goals. Without the injured players, Andreas Varga and Mathias Günther, Bregenz did not have the strength to stop the Portuguese team. Although Bregenz have much more experience in the CL competitions, Benfica will arrive in Austria with a four-goal advantage.
