Metz face Viborg after defeatThe Danish top team, Viborg, will play the first game of the new CL season in France. Though the favourites of the game may be the Danes, Metz are ready for the encounter. The French champions are on top of the table in their domestic league with six victories. Last weekend, the team of coach Sándor Rác defeated Issy Les Moulineaux comfortably by 35-24 in the French league. They showed even at that game that they have the quality to play in the best European competition. Amandine Leynaud seemed to be in top form. The goalkeeper showed a very good performance with 20 saves and 50% efficiency. The French international keeper was helped by a very aggressive defence. Kysucanova, Ayglon, Lovric and Poznarova were important pillars of the defence. Sándor Rác team commented after the victory: “We made a good game. We were able to improve our defensive performance that was not so good at the beginning.” Defeat against BiganosThe last test before the opening game in the CL was not as successful as the season so far. Metz suffered their first defeat of the season away against Mios Biganos. Though Metz were still leading at half-time, Biganos won by 28-23 at the end. Katty Piejos and Isabelle Wendling scored four goals this time; the others were below their usual standards. Despite the defeat, Metz remain on top of the table before the first CL game of the season. TEXT: Fernando Urra Goni |
