A must win game

Győri ETO player, Orsolya Vérten, talks about the upcoming Zvenigorod game and tells us about life after last week's shock defeat.

A must win game

Győri Audi ETO KC will host the CL title holder Zvezda on Sunday. Eurohandball.com talks to Hungarian top player, Olympic All Star team left winger, Orsolya Vérten.

Eurohandball.com: What was the explanation of the home defeat against Ikast?

Győr need to get over the defeat against IkastOrsolya Vérten: We already had an eight-goal lead by the mid first half, but we lost too many balls early in the second half. Ikast could use their most dangerous weapon, the fast break. It was also important that Anita Görbicz could not play for 10 minutes in this period and the Danes equalised.

Eurohandball.com: This defeat had a bad impact on the team and you seemed to suffer on Wednesday still in the domestic league...

Vérten: That’s correct. Vác were in the lead for 45 minutes and we played terrible handball. After that we could turn the game in 15 minutes when we played according to our standards. Perhaps the disappointment from the weekend had an impact on our form as we did not expect this outcome against the Danes.

Eurohandball.com: Are you over it now?

Vérten: We have to be. I don’t believe that we will have problems with it against Zvezda. We have to step on court with only one objective in our minds: victory. I know that the Russians have a few young players who played in the national team at the World Cup too. I beleive that having young players is not a disadvantage for them as the Russian junior team has always been very strong. As I know, their coach EVgenyi Trefilov will not travel with the team. Maybe the girls will play with less stress accordingly.

Last season Zvezda was the end for GyőrEurohandball.com: Do you wish to take revange for the lost semi-final against Zvezda last season?

Vérten: The only thing I have in mind is that we have to go on from this group. We must win on Sunday at all cost. I really hope that we will be able to beat Zvenigorod away – asit was the case last season – and win our two home games. We also need to perform well in Ikast. If alls this comes true, we will reach the Main Round.
