Englert signs for Ikast

The German top goalkeeper will join the Danish squad at the end of the season.

Englert signs for Ikast

German international goalkeeper, Sabine Englert, will be leaving Hypo Niederösterreich after two years at the end of the season. She will join Danish league club and current Champions League team Ikast/Brande EH from next season.

“I spent two really good seasons with Hypo Niederösterreich, but I want to put myself to test against strong opponents and good teams week by week. That’s not possible in Austria where the league is not strong enough. I’m looking forward to playing for FC Midtjylland (kast/Brande´s new name, which will be official from next season, ed.) where a lot of great individuals form a very strong team. It is a club always competing for the Danish title and it has always been a dream to me to play in the Danish league,” 27 year old Sabine Englert said as her three-year contract with Ikast was announced.

Happiness in Ikast

The news was welcomed in Ikast as the contract with Englert, who played 160 internationals for Germany, was officially announced.

“She has the perfect age for a goalkeeper. She is experienced and strong already, but she still has the potential to develop further,” Ikast head coach Kenneth Jensen said.

The club’s sports director Frank Henriksen commented:

“We have been watching Sabine Englert for a long time and we are happy and proud to attach her to FC Midtjylland. She is among the five best goalkeepers in the world.”

In Ikast Sabine Englert, who joined Hypo from TV 05 Mainzlar in 2007, will replace Camilla Eriksen. The Danish goalkeeper will retire after this season.
