Coach Csaba Konkoly hope that Main Round will not be the end of the road for Győr.

More steps to climb

Coach of Győri AUDI ETO KC, Csaba Konkoly, talks to Eurohandball.com about the Main Round in the Women’s CL.

Eurohandball.com: What’s your opinion about your group?

Győr fans can travel for the Main Round gamesCsaba Konkoly: We knew exactly that we could get no easy teams in the Main Round as only the best teams made it so far. If we talk about our original objectives, we can say that we took the first step. The next level would be to repeat the result from a year ago, which was reaching the semi-final. If we get so far, only nuances will decide whether we can take it to the next level…

We are confident before these games. We will try to work with the same efficiency as we did before the group matches, but obviously I could do without a home defeat. If all this goes well, we can take this second step successfully.

Eurohandball.com: What can you know about the opponents in advance?

Csaba Konkoly: We met Buducnost after Christmas at a friendly tournament for the last time. That was a test match, so we cannot draw conclusions from there. However, it was a useful opportunity to get an exact idea about the team.

We know about Valcea that their players are also important players of the Romanian national team. The team has gone through changes recently and they have a new coach too. They show a steadily improving form.

Eurohandball.com: And last but not least Krim…

Csaba Konkoly: I don’t know much about them right now. I focused on our own problems in the last few weeks, so I did not have time to pay enough attention to all the others. I will make up for this. Last year they failed in the group phase, so it must be a big opportunity for them now.

Eurohandball.com: There will be a couple of well-known faces in the other teams too…

Csaba Konkoly: All three opponents have Hungarian player or players, which shows the power of our handball.

What is also important is that the away games will be within reach for our fans. The atmosphere they can create anywhere is very important for the girls and also for me.

Eurohandball.com: Did Görbicz join the trainings as it was planned?

Konkoly Csaba: Anita returned today and after training on a bicycle she trained with us another 45 minutes. I hope that together with her, we will be even stronger and more efficient in the Main Round.
