Kiel improved after the break

The game was not as quick as it was in Denmark two weeks ago, but at the end the German champions won against the Danes very clearly.

Omeyer had a great game once againThe best THW player was Filip Jicha, who scored 12 goals, despite a touch of flu. After an equal first half, the Germans improved and took the points with a 37:29 (20:20) victory against GOG on home court.

“Our defence was very weak in the first 30 minutes and GOG played very well, but after the break Thierry Omeyer’s saves brought us back on track and we improved in defence,” THW coach Alfred Gislasson said.

In his team Nikola Karabatic, Stefan Lövgren and Vid Kavticnik could not play due to injury, so Kiel started without a real playmaker.

The first 30 minutes were imprinted by a strong GOG and a lot of Kiel mistakes. It ended with a draw (20:20). But then it took only 15 minutes to decide the match at 31:23, as GOG scored only three times due to the outstanding saves of Omeyer. In addition, Jicha also started his one-man show.

Though GOG came closer a bit, they could not turn the page and Kiel remain spotless with 10:0 points in the Champions League before the last round when THW will play in Ciudad Real.

The best GOG players were goalkeeper Henriksen with 16 saves and Petersen with seven goals. Even as his team lost, Svendborg coach Ulf Schefvert was not unsatisfied:

“I’m proud of the way we played in the first half. Afterwards Kiel played on a higher level and we were tired. But I’m quite satisfied.”
