Surprise defeat: CL semi-finalist Viborg are eliminated from the Danish Cup.

First Viborg defeat in Denmark

After winning all Danish league games this season, the Women’s Champions League semi-finalist Viborg HK suffered their first defeat of the season in Denmark.

Viborg fans are not used to many defeats in DenmarkCurrent number three in the league, SK Århus, have beaten Viborg in the Danish Cup. After Viborg were leading with five goals in the first half, SK Århus managed to win the match by 30-29. This means that Viborg that won the Cup in the previous three years have been eliminated from the competition.

The first Viborg defeat from a Danish team this season came only five weeks after Viborg have beaten SK Århus with no less than 17 goals in the Danish league.

“Århus players really gave all they had and made fast breaks during the entire match! We were tired in the second half and they punished us for this. I’m really disappointed right now and I hope that we can learn from this,” Rikke Skov, Viborg´s experienced player said.

“Even though we are in the middle of a very difficult season, I’m deeply disappointed that the players did not do more,” head coach Jakob Vestergaard said.
