Enough time to prepare

Viborg secured their place in the Danish Final and now they must only focus on the Győr games.

Time to prepare

No matter how the upcoming Finals of the Women’s Champions League between Hungarian Győr and Danish Viborg turn out, Viborg will be at least in the qualification tournament for the Champions League next season.

Viborg secured the Danish championship Final over the weekend with a 31-18 away win against KIF Vejen. This result qualified the ruling Danish champions for the Final although they still have a game left from the play-offs. The finals will be played in May after the Champions League finals.

“Qualifying for the next Champions League was one of our main objects for this season. Obviously, we are happy to accomplish this. We qualified for the Danish championship final soon, so now have two weeks to prepare for the Champions League Final. It will be the first time this season that we have so much time to prepare for an important match,” Viborg head coach, Jakob Vestergaard, told Eurohandball.dom.

Champions League speed

“This way we will have an easier schedule than Győr. They will have two Wednesday matches among other tasks before the first leg of the Champions League Final. But then again, I’m not sure if this is an advantage or is it better to play tough matches,” Vestergaard said.

“I must say that our two last games in the domestic league were played at the right Champions League speed. Now we are going to use the next two weeks to stay on top also physically,” Vestergaard added.

It is still not known who will be opponent in the Danish Final. It will be either Ikast/Brande EH, Cup Winners’ Cup finalist FCK Håndbold or Aalborg DH.

If Viborg win the Danish championship again, they will automatically have a place in the Champions League group stage.
