Spain vs. Germany - Episode 3Will THW Kiel end their Spanish curse? This question will be answered after the second leg of this season’s Champions League final on 31 May in Ciudad Real. Both clubs have reached the CL final for the fourth time; Kiel had won the title once in 2007, Ciudad Real twice in 2006 and 2008.
In total it will be the third time for German and Spanish teams to meet in a final. Kiel were involved twice on the one hand, Barcelona and Ciudad Real once on the other hand. Barcelona won the Final against THW in 2000. Ciudad won in 2008. Barcelona are the all time record holders with six CL titles, including five consecutive titles between 1996 and 2000. Thanks to Barca, Spain are leading the CL national ranking clearly with 11 titles in 15 years (Barcelona/6, Ciudad/2, Portland/1, Santander/1, Irun/1). Two titles were won by German teams (Magdeburg, Kiel) and one by Slovenian (Celje) and French (Montpellier) teams. TEXT: Björn Pazen |
