Vardar going for a CL place

Whether Vardar pro are ready for the new European cup season and whether they're strong enough for the Champions League will be know this weekend.

The FYR Macedonian champion will host a CL qualification tournament in the Kale sports hall. Besiktas, Dinamo Minsk and Buducnost will arrive to play for the CL ticket. The winner will qualify meet Barcelona, Kiel, Kolding and Amicitia in the group phase.

Vardar won two tournaments in August, one in Doboj and the other in Blace. The team played 10 games and suffered only one defeat.

The key to winning the group might be the game on Sunday against Dinamo Minsk.

There are no easy or difficult opponents. It will be up to our perfromance,coach Vujovic said.

All matches of Vardar pro will be live on A1 TV, which will broadcast the entire season in FYR Macedonia.

Serving a one-year ban, coach Veselin Vujovic, will be watching his team from spectators’ area. Assistant coach Ace Stankovski will replace him for the games. Vujovic was punished following a Cup Winners’ Cup game in Swizerland last season.

The team will not have a "classic” right winger. Zlatko Mojsovskia and Vlatko Jovcevski are injured; Ivan Markovski didn't get his documents from the Saudi Arabia. The team will borrow Milan Levov from VV Tikves.

Nine new players in the squad

This season Vardar pro have nine players; some of them are new signings or called back from loan. Compared to last season, Vardar pro has more players for each position with a stronger competition.

The club signed three national players, Angelov, Stojanovic and Angelovski, and three internationals, Pesic, Gjorgjevic and Marakovic. Several players from the second team were promoted.

“We can play well in defence against any team. Now we are aggressive, we have height and weight enough. I have some worries in attack. There are still things we need to improve. Before the season I was pessimistic, but after two tournaments I became optimistic. Things are moving in a good direction,” coach Veselin Vujovicsaid.
