Russia defend World Championship title in ChinaThe Russian women’s National Team took the gold medals at the end of the XIX Women’s World Championship in China. The team of Evgeni Trefilov won a high quality final game 25:22 against runner-up France coached by Olivier Krumbholz. The bronze game was a battle between the EHF EURO 2008 finalists as Norway have once again defeated Spain. This time the final result was 31:26 that gave the bronze for Norway. The Russian success is one more acknowledgement for the outstanding handball traditions of the country. The Soviet Union and Russia have a unique record of winning the Women’s World Championships for the seventh(!) time after 1982, 1986, 1990, 2001, 2005 and 2007. Altogether 11 European teams took part at the World Championship in China and showed a remarkable performance taking all of the best five places. Final ranking:
