Viborg find replacement in their own ranksViborg HK have managed to find the replacement for pregnant pivot in their own ranks. From now on, Lene Lund Høy Karlsen who has ended her career in Viborg prematurely due to her pregnancy, will be replaced by Karen Smidt who has been playing in the club’s reserve team in the third Danish league so far this season. She will be back-up to German international Anja Althaus who is first-choice pivot by the reigning Champions League winners. “Karen is a well known player who has helped us before. We are happy to have such a good player with so many feelings for the club among us. She will really be into this with her heart, what makes this an extremely good solution,” Viborg director Peter Cassøe said about the comeback of 30 year old Smidt. Missing the atmosphere“I have enjoyed playing in the third league, but I have also missed the atmosphere at top level. So this is a great opportunity for me to be where the fun is greatest. Last year I was a supplementary player, but now I have been promoted into second-choice at the circle. This way I am really part of the squad, and that is going to be great fun. As a handball player you always fight for your chance, and now it is up to me to grab it,” Karen Smidt said. Having played in Viborg’s own reserve team all the season, she is allowed to play in the Champions League at once, and she is expected to be part of the Viborg team for the last group match – at home against Podravka Vegeta on the coming Saturday.
