Spotlight on SpainWhile Ciudad Real prepares their Sunday visit in Croatia for the Champion’s League game against Osiguranje-Zagreb, they have also started to prepare themselves for winning the Spanish title. Of course there are still some games to be played and everything is possible. But Ciudad’s 23:19 victory over Barcelona Borges on Wednesday night on their home court in Quijote Arena opens a great gap in the top of the table of Asobal League. The Spanish champions are now five points ahead runner’s-up Barcelona. Their 38 points mean that Talant Dujshebaev’s team has not lost a single game yet, achieving 19 victories out of 19 games. After already having won in Pamplona, Barcelona, Leon and Valladolid, the way to title seems to be really easy. Barcelona still has eleven more matches to catch up these five points, but this mission is a very difficult one. So after the defeat in Ciudad Real, the Champions League might be the focus target for the Catalonians. Barcelona reinforced their squad strongly last summer and need a title to justify the money invested. But also Ademar Leon lost a point in the Asobal drawing against modest Cuenca. That puts a lot of pressure on both teams for the upcoming Champions League clash Ademar – Barcelona. TEXT: Fernando Urra Goñi |
