Slovenians win at Leipzig, but topscorer Andrea Lekic severely injured.

Krim remain in the race for the semis

Group I:

HC Leipzig – Krim Mercator 27:31 (14:20)

Krim Mercator still can hope for the semifinals of Women’s Champions League. The Slovenians won at Leipzig and now have four points, two less than the favoured teams of Larvik and Györ. For Leipzig it was the fourth defeat in their fourth Main Round match. But despite the victory there was one bad news for Krim: Top scorer Andrea Lekic (8 goals) had to be brought to hospital after a severe elbow injury in the last minute of the match. As Leipzig was much too passive in defense, Ljubljana extended the lead very easily to 20:14 at the break and seemed to have decided the game a t the score of 26:20 in minute 45. But then Leipzig woke up, scored six consecutive goals, equalized and was close to turn the game completely. But in the final stage they had lost too much power and caused too many mistakes to endanger Krim, even as goalkeeper Katja Schülke again played a brilliant match with 19 saves. Thanks to four goals in a row after the 27:27, Krim took the points. HCL top scorer was Karolina Kudlacz with ten goals – not enough to win the first points in the Main Round.
