Skov: We can go all the way againRikke Skov, one of the most experienced players of Viborg HK, is convinced that her team can copy last year´s triumph and win the Women´s Champions League. The Danes finished second after Romanian champions Oltchim Valcea in their Main Round group, but that does not reduce the optimism of the 29-year old backcourt player and defence specialist who played 107 internationals for Denmark. Eurohandball.com: How do you see your team´s efforts in the Main Round? Rikke Skov. I think it was okay and I find it particularly important that we got a clear win against Oltchim Valcea from our last match. Of course they were missing a couple of players, but we did not play at the maximum of our potential either, so in general I think it gives us a psychological advantage if we meet them again in the Final. Eurohandball.com: When looking back to your Champions League campaign this season, how would you compare it to last year? Rikke Skov: We won our preliminary group, just like last year. Then we finished second in our main round group, which we won last year – but this time we were hit by a lot of injuries and we were in a very tough group. All in all, I think our performance was okay so far. We are in the semi-finals, and that is the most important fact! Eurohandball.com: Larvik will be waiting in those semi-finals. What do you expect from those matches? Rikke Skov: Larvik will be tough opponent, but they play in quite a different style to Eastern European teams we met lately. I'm looking forward to playing against Larvik. We will have to be very good tactically and prepare extremely well for those games. We will have to prepare for a very difficult home ground in Larvik, but in general I'm convinced that you may expect two really good semi-finals. Eurohandball.com; Can you go all they way again, like you did last year? Rikke Skov: Yes, I believe we can. TEXT: Peter Bruun |
