Althaus: two more years in Viborg

A key player extends contract with the Danish top team.

Althaus: two more years in Viborg

German international Anja Althaus is going to stay two more years with Viborg HK. The 27-year old pivot joined the Danish top club in the summer of 2007. Her current contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but now it was extended until the summer of 2012.

Key player in defence and attack“I am really happy about it. I could not imagine going home to Germany or joining any other club than Viborg. After a tough first season I feel really good in Denmark – on and off the court,” Anja Althaus said.

Head coach Jakob Vestergaard was also happy for the negotiations between the club and Anja Althuas had ended successfully.

“During her time in Viborg, Anja developed from high international level to absolute world class. She has been contributing greatly to our success in the past couple of years. She has her strengths at both ends of the court and she is an extremely important player for us,” Vestergaard said.

Two pivots on international top level

After the extension with Anja Althaus, Viborg are going to have two pivots on international top level next season as the club previously signed Norwegian international Marit Malm Frafjord from current number two in Norway, Byåsen. Althaus is looking forward to her new partner "on the circle".

“I do not fear any competition by Marit – on the contrary! There are lots of matches each season and we are two different kinds of pivots. This should give many tactical options and hopefully the team can benefit from that,” Anja Althaus said.

Jakob Vestergaard also sees interesting perspectives:

“In top international handball, pivots are extremely important players and now we will have the strongest pair in the world for this position. Both Anja and Marit are strong at both ends of the court,” the head coach said.
