Viborg lead with six goalsSemifinal, fist leg: Viborg HK – Larvik HK 27:21 (13:13) Thanks to a major improvement in the second half Viborg HK can dream of reaching the CL final again. After an equal first half the Danish title defender won the first leg of the “Nordic clash” in the semis against Larvik HK 27:21 – and takes a lead of six goals to the re match next Saturday in Norway. Viborg extended the gap from minute to minute and was in front with six goals in minute 54 (25:19) for the first time. The Danes were more stable in defense and more efficient in counter attacks, even as the Danish Larvik keeper Lene Rantala showed a great performance. As the number of mistakes increased on the Larvik side, Viborg was totally dominant after the break. Top scorers were Linn Sulland with eight goals for Larvik and Henriette Mikkelsen with six goals for goals Viborg. But the match was imprinted by a double German comeback: Only two months after the birth of her son Lucas Grit Jurack (top scorer of last CL season) returned on the field and scored three of the 27 Viborg goals. Anja Althaus hit the back of the net five times only six weeks after a severe knee injury at the match in Valcea. As for the Danes the door to their fifth CL final (two titles in 2006 and 2009) stands widely open, the Norwegians need a victory with a seven goal difference to the reach the final for the first time in club history. The first leg of the second semifinal Audi ETO Györ – Oltchim Valcea will be broadcasted on Sunday on www.ehftv.com starting at 17.15 local time. TEXT: Björn Pazen |
