We’ll fight until the end!

Szeged coach László Skaliczki hopes for a second victory in the third game.

We’ll fight until the end!

Hungarian Pick Szeged started their VELUX EHF Champions League campaign strongly by beating Schaffhausen, but then they lost against HC DINAMO-Minsk by four goals. eurohandball.com asked trainer László Skaliczki about his feelings prior to his team’s upcoming match against Danish AaB Handball.

Skaliczki: I believe it’s a feat that we could win against Schaffhausen at the home match. Based on their performance by qualifying to the VELUX EHF Champions League, Minsk surprised us. They’re a stronger team than I’d expected. The Belarusian team plays a typical Russian way of handball. I’m very sorry that the end of the match didn’t work well for us, as we were very close to the opponent. All in all, I’m satisfied with our first two games, as we are currently on the 4th place. I feel that it’s a very equal and balanced group.

eurohandball.com: What’s the current situation in your team regarding injuries and morale?

Skaliczki: Well, we have a lot of problems. Gábor Herbert already played with an injury, so he must be operated on this week. Dávid Katzirz couldn’t participate in our preparation period. Szabolcs Törő is also recovering from his elbow injury. In addition we had several players coming in from different handball cultures, so firstly we have to integrate them in the team.

eurohandball.com: How will you prepare for your next opponent, AaB Handball?

Skaliczki: We will have a hard match in the Hungarian League on Wednesday against Csurgó. This includes travelling almost 900 kilometres, there and back. Then we’ll have a regeneration day on Thursday, so we only can prepare for the Danish opponent on Friday and Saturday.

eurohandball.com: How would you describe your Sunday opponent?

Skaliczki: They’re playing very nice handball. They are instructed by the co-trainer of the Danish national team, and also have some world class players within their ranks. I expect to face some serious playing strength. We’ll be fully focussed on the game, and I can promise that we’ll fight until the end. We want, not only to play, but to win!
