Donation to victims of Hungarian disaster
It may have been business as usual in the Veszprém Arena in Hungary over the weekend as 5000 fans packed into the arena and cheered their side on to a dramatic win against French side, Montpellier, but not too far from everybody’s mind was the environmental disaster that has befallen the region in the last week.
The toxic sludge catastrophe, which led the Hungarian government to declare a state of emergency in several counties, including Veszprém where the spill originated, has caused death and injury to signifcant numbers of people in the area as well as causing untold damage people’s homes and the environment.
Recognising the impact of this disaster on the Veszprém region, the VELUX EHF Men’s Champions League, through EHF Marketing GmbH and the competition’s title sponsor, The VELUX Group, has made a donation towards the clean-up of the sludge and the victims of the disaster in western Hungary.
Ahead of the match in Vezsprem on Saturday Peter Vargo, Managing Director of EHF Marketing GmbH (pictured right), and Beata Őz, Manager of VELUX Hungary (pictured centre) presented a cheque for 10,000 € on behalf of the VELUX EHF Men’s Champions League to the President of the General Assembly of the County of Veszprém and President of the Defence Committee of Veszprém, Mr. Jeno Lastovicza (pictured left).
