Bodnieva: “Krim can be even better”

Different RK Krim Mercator faces were seen in the first phase of EHF Women’s Champions League. Experienced Russian player Liudmila Bodnieva is sure Krim can perform much better in the coming rounds.

After their first three games the Slovenian side can be satisfied with four points – victories against Podravka and Viborg, although they were defeated in Larvik.

"The biggest satisfaction is always when you are winning away, like we did in Koprivnica,” said Bodnieva, who is playing her ninth season for Krim.

“We must be happy with game against Viborg in Ljubljana when we played fantastic for 40 minutes. Everything worked out at that time although I am sure we could not see what Viborg are capable of. I would not want to lose too many words for our Larvik adventure where we were really terribly disappointed. I still can not find the appropriate reasons for this."

Reaching one of the top two places in the EHF Women’s Champions League Group B is the ultimate goal and luckily Krim have two more home games.

This coming Saturday they must cope with Viborg who were badly defeated in Ljubljana. "Our team can beat anyone and also lose to every opponent," says the 33-year old Russian pivot.

"If a game like against Larvik happens once again, we will be far from our wishes."

Krim will travel to Denmark on Saturday morning have a rest and play the fourth round match "We showed great stamina in defence in all three of our Champions League matches but we have a lot of reserves in attack. You know, our backward line has changed completely and we need a little more time to feel ourselves."

The Slovenian champions do not have any new injury problems following nearly all their players participation in national teams last week. Before Viborg however they face a Slovenian derby in Zagorje.

Bodnieva believes that advancing to the Women’s EHF Champions League Main Round is in their own hands and that Krim have a superb chance after first three matches. "We can all count, knowing each two points can be decisive or fatal. We are going for three victories in three games."
