Team effort to victoryAustrian champions Hypo caused a real sensation on Wednesday, when coach András Németh’s team defeated the more favoured Hungarians in a real thriller. Hypo’s Hungarian international Bernadett Temes scored five times and was one of the main pillars for the victory. The 25-year-old playmaker tells ehfCL.com about the secrets behind her side’s victorious home performance, and sums-up Hypo’s games in the EHF Women´s Champions League. ehfCL.com: What was the little extra that helped you to beat Győr on Wednesday? Bernadett Temes: I think the Hungarians travelled to us with the feeling that they already had the two points in their pocket. To tell the truth, we also thought that they would take the victory home. Then, during the match, I felt that Győr weren’t giving their best, and we felt that we might have a chance against them. Therefore, our players were inspired to give an extra-special performance. Even our replacement players were superb, and that’s something I call team work! Every team-mate of mine helped the club to victory, that’s the only way to beat a team like Győr. ehfCL.com: Have you seen any on-court mistakes that you have to correct for the second match? Bernadett Temes: Of course, we made several mistakes, but fortunately Győr made even more. We have analyzed the match and spoken about correcting those errors. On Sunday, our aim will be to force our opponent to make more mistakes. Regarding our tactics, I don’t want to reveal anything else! ehfCL.com: How would you rate your team's performance so far in the EHF Women's Champions League? Bernadett Temes: We still have to work hard to perform well. We don’t have many chances to qualify to the Main Round from the group phase this season. To reach it, we will have to win in Győr, but despite our Wednesday win, they are still a hard team for us to beat on their home court. ehfCL.com: Did you expect this kind of performance from Hypo at the beginning of this season? Bernadett Temes: We’d hoped for a bit better start, and our goal was to beat Randers and Metz. We should have defeated Randers on our home court, but unfortunately we didn’t. Our team had several reinforcements, and therefore, needed more time to become a team. Really, this progression came too late. We’ve celebrated two home victories, so now we feel very sorry about the lost two points against Randers. ehfCL.com: Your team's performance has been continuously improving this season. So do you think you can beat Győr again? Bernadett Temes: Well we certainly won't travel to Győr with our hands up! Their hall has its own great atmosphere. I really don't like people saying that, after Sunday's match, that the first match was only Győr's own fiasco. I have a lot of motivation to play well in Hungary, as I started playing handball in Győr, the city where I fell in love with the sport of handball! TEXT: handball.hu (Ildikó Balogh) |
