Serbian champions sign two new Spanish players

The ambitious Serbian champions RK Zajecar have signed two new Spanish players.

Alongside Marta Mangue, who spent last season in Serbia, the Serbian champions RK Zajecar have entered into contracts with two further Spanish players, line player Begona Fernandez (32) and centre back, Nuria Benzal (27).

“There isn't too much to say about Begona. She is world-class player, both good in attack or defense. Nuria is an "all-round" player, who can be useful in all the back positions.

She will also be a good reinforcement for our squad,” commented RK Zajecar's President, Milan Stankovic.

Fernandez and Benzal, big names on the international stage

Fernandez and Benzal were the part of the successful Spanish squad, who won European silver at the EHF EURO 2008.

Fernandez arrives from Spanish champions S.D Itxako.

She was voted onto the "All Star Team" at EHF EURO 2008 and World Championship in China 2009.

Familiar territory for Serbian side

Zajecar will play against Russian outfit Rostov-Don in Group 3 of the Women’s EHF Champions League Qualification tournament.

“We have played against the same teams last year in Denmark. The only difference is that now Rostov-Don know how we play," commented the club president.

"Of course, our wish is to play against Cluj in the Final. The Romanian team would be the favourite because of home advantage.

"It is early to say anything more about our chances. Every team is in preparation for the new season. Our biggest wish is to play in the EHF Champions League for the first time,” says Stankovic.
