The last day of the Main Round was exciting at the Women’s 18 European Open. In both groups, the last games decided who will make it to the final.

The last day of the Main Round was exciting at the Women’s 18 European Open. In both groups, the last games decided who will make it to the final.

Group 1

In Group 1, Russia and the Czech Republic met in the last game.

After a very close game, Russia defeated the Czech (19:18) and proceeds to the final.

Russia is the leader of the group after victories against Austria (30:6), Romania (21:19) and the Czech Republic. 

The Czech Republic is second in Group 1. They defeated Romania (19:18) and Austria (27:16). Third place goes to Romania who won against the outsider Austria (30:15).

Group 2

The last game in Group 2 was Germany vs. Norway. Germany had defeated Sweden (20:18) and Poland (23:18), Norway won against Poland (22:21) but they against the Swedish team (17:18) so that they had to win against Germany to proceed to the final.

After a thrilling match, Norway could celebrate a victory against the German squad (12:11) and goes through to the final. Sweden makes it to third place in Group 2 since they won against Poland (21:12).

 

Challenge round

Group 3

It was a very close decision in Group 3. After a draw between Italy and Switzerland (17:17) and a victory of both teams against Belgium (Switzerland 24:13, Italy 23:16), both squads stood ahead of the group with three points.

However, since Switzerland got the better goal difference they end up as the winner of Group 3. Italy is second and the Belgian team makes it to the third place.

Group 4

Iceland is the winner of Group 4. After two victories against Finland (18:14) and Lithuania (17:15), the Icelandic team will now play for the 9th place of the Women’s 18 European Open. Second place in Group 4 goes to Lithuania who won against the outsider Finland (26:16).

 

Placements games:

Placement matches and the final will be played on July 6th.

The games will be 2 x 30 minutes instead of 2 x 25 minutes as it was in the Preliminary and the Main Round.

In case of a draw, there will be one extra time of 2 x 5 minutes. If the game is still undecided after the extra time, there will be a shoot-out competition (5 players).

 

Final: Russia vs. Norway

3rd/4rth place: Czech Republic vs. Germany

5th/6th place: Romania vs. Sweden

7th/8th place: Austria vs. Poland

9th/10th place: Switzerland vs. Iceland

11th/12th place: Italy vs. Lithuania

13th/14th place: Belgium vs. Finland
