Barcelona signs Gurbindo

Member of the Spanish national team for the upcoming Olympic Games in London, Eduardo Gurbindo (25) has signed a two-year contract with the Spanish champion FC Barcelona Intersport. Former BM Valladolid player will stay in Barcelona until the end of the season 2013/14.

The left-handed player from Pamplona began his professional career in SDC Portland San Antonio who won the EHF Champions League in 2000/01. In the five years that Gurbindo spent in San Antonio (2003-2008), he played with some of the best handball players in the world, such as Jackson Richardson and Ivano Balic. In 2008, Gurbindo left his home team and played in Torrevieja for one season.

Gurbindo has played last three seasons at BM Valladolid (2009-2012) where the Spanish national coach Valero Rivera followed his progress. In 2010, he made his debut for the national team at the EHF EURO 2010 in Austria and in 2011 won the bronze medal at the World Championship in Sweden.

FC Barcelona with three right backs

Right now FC Barcelona Intersport has three right backs under contract. After signing Angel Montoro, the eight-time VELUX EHF Champions League winner, the team announced that their captain, Laszlo Nagy (31), will stay at the club until the end of his current contract. MKB Veszprem’s offer was not good enough to release one of the best right backs in the world. However, only a day after Barcelona announced that Nagy will stay in Spain for another year, the Hungarian champion said that „they believe negotiations will continue after the Olympic Games“. However, even if Nagy went to Hungary, Barcelona would have no problem on the right side.
