Dreaming of a new title

"The players were well prepared and in good shape when they came to our annual gathering," explained Branko Tamše.

Dreaming of a new title

Slovenian champions Gorenje Velenje have one big goal for the upcoming season: to stay on the top!

The squad experienced only one change after their phenomenal season where they finished the Slovenian championship without a single defeat. Serbian international Nikola Manojlović left the club and moved to rival RK Cimos Koper but Gorenje Velenje decided not to sign any new players. The club was able to keep captain and playmaker Marko Bezjak in the team since the German team Magdeburg did not enforce the transfer.

The team’s preparation started few days ago. "At the first stage, we try to improve the physical condition. The season will be long and exhausting and our players have to be ready to face these challenges,” explains coach Branko Tamše. After a few days spent running around the lake in Velenje, the team moved to the mountains where they will stay until August 10th.

In the upcoming season the Slovenian champion will once again participate in the VELUX EHF Champions League (Group C) which contains a lot of challenges with a special charm. "Already in June I said that it will be hard to repeat such a good season. I hope that we will be able to play on a similar level as we did last year,” adds Tamše.
