Pascual stays in Barca for two more years

FC Barcelona Intersport have reached an agreement with their successful coach Xavi Pascual to extend his current contract until the end of the season 2014/15. That means that Pascual will remain at Barca two years longer. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season 2012/13.

Barca’s board member responsible for the handball section, Eduard Coll was really satisfied with the newest signing. “Barcelona want our own people here at home. Xavi Pascual is doing an exceptional job. We have decided to extend his contract and that of all his staff in line with our policy of putting our trust in our own people,” said Coll to the official club website.

Pascual - Barca´s man

Relationship between Barca and Pascual began in 1986, when the young goalkeeper came to 'Blaugrana'.

The current Barca coach spent three years in the team as a player. He was added to the Barcelona’s coaching staff in 2005 and was responsible for goalkeepers and later, he was in charge of the youth team.

Pascual became the assistant of Manolo Cadenas at the beginning of season 2008/09. A few months later, in February 2009, a successful era in Barcelona began with him as a head coach.

In the last three years the most decorated handball club ever has won nine major trophies: the VELUX EHF Champions League title in 2011 included, others were ASOBAL 2011/12, Spanish Cup 2009/10, ASOBAL Cup 2010/12 and the ASOBAL Super Cup 2010/12.
