Byåsen´s Nøstvold out for weeks

The injury of their key player could ruin Byåsen´s chances of reaching the Group Matches of the Women´s EHF Champions League

Byåsen´s Nøstvold out for weeks

Trondheim´s hopes of making it through to the Women´s EHF Champions League Group Matches suffered a major blow after Norwegian international Tonje Nøstvold had sustained a shoulder injury and will be unable to play.

Byåsen is a host of Qualification Tournament 2 this weekend (8 and 9 September) and take on WHC Metalurg Skopje from FYR Macedonia in the semi-final.

The 27 year old right back and gold medallist from London Olympics picked up the injury in last weekend´s match against Levanger in the domestic league, and now she is looking at a break of at least a couple of weeks.

“This is bad news, but there is really nothing we can do about it!” Byåsen´s head coach Valery Putans told the Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen.

“We have some alternatives for the position, but it is obvious that we are going to feel Tonje´s absence. We will be missing a part in our system, and a left handed player,” Putans added.

If Byåsen manage to defeat Metalurg, they will meet the winner of the other semi-final between Buxtehuder SV and SERCODAX Dalfsen in the final on Sunday. Obviously, Nøstvold, with 141 international matches on her career, will be absent for that game as well.
