Glandorf: Montpellier clash is new territory
SG Flensburg-Handewitt are preparing for their opening clash in the VELUX EHF Champions League against Montpellier HB, and left-handed player Holger Glandorf spoke to ehfCL.com ahead of the mouth-watering match.
ehfCL.com: If you play against Montpellier, this will be your debut in the VELUX EHF Champions League. How much of a challenge is that?
Holger Glandorf: Of course, this is new territory for me. It's a great thing for SG to be competing with the top clubs. For me personally the VELUX EHF Champions League is a welcome opportunity to make steps forward. Also new to me is the intense stress that comes alongside being involved in the Group Matches.
ehfCL.com: What is your goal for the VELUX EHF Champions League?
Holger Glandorf: First, we should are aiming to get through the Group Matches. We are in a very tough group with attractive opponents, but we still want to get the next round.
ehfCL.com: You already have experience of playing in the European Cup. And you have played against most of your opponents in the Group Matches before, right?
Holger Glandorf: Yes, that's right. We know Hamburg well, and when I was at Nordhorn I played against Chekhovskie Medvedi in the semi-finals of the European Cup. We lost out by just one goal against a team which was almost the entire Russian national team. With Lemgo I played twice against Leon, although we lost to them in a qualifying tournament for the Champions League but later on we beat them in Spain. And I played once in Belgrade with Nordhorn. But that was not Partizan, but another club - if I remember correctly.
ehfCL.com: So the only club you have not played against before it Montpellier HB. Do you know what will be important against the French champions?
Holger Glandorf: I haven't thought in much detail about Montpellier. However, we know they're a top team in Europe who would like to go even further to the top. This is a very interesting team, one of the favorites in the VELUX EHF Champions League.
ehfCL.com: One of your former team-mates at Nordhorn, Erlend Mamelund, is in Montpellier's squad. Will there be a small reunion celebration?
Holger Glandorf: It's always nice to hear from a former team-mate. I was a little surprised that he has moved to Montpellier - to go from his native Norway to the French champions is a big jump.
