Entrerríos makes comeback for Spain

16 players nominated for EHF EURO 2014 qualification matches against Portugal and Switzerland

Entrerríos makes comeback for Spain

After being left out of the Spanish squad for the 2012 Olympic Games, HBC Nantes left back Alberto Entrerríos is making a comeback and has been nominated by head coach Valero Rivera for Spain’s two EHF EURO 2014 qualification matches against Portugal and Switzerland at the beginning of November.

"At certain moments during the Olympic Games I missed him for all he can contribute to our squad, so I think that he should return to the national team for these two matches and the World Championship which will be played in Spain in 2013,” Rivera was quoted on the Spanish Handball Federation's website.

However, 35-year-old Entrerríos’ comeback was not the only news. Compared to the fourteen men he nominated for the London Games, Rivera selected three more players who were not part of the team back then.

These players are Ángel Montoro, right back of Barcelona Intersport, and Paris Saint Germain's Antonio García and José Manuel Sierra, the latter being the replacement for injured goalkeeper José Javier Hombrados.

On the contrary, Eduardo Gurbindo and Mikel Aguirrezabalaga, both playing for Barcelona Intersport and both part of Spain’s Olympic team, have not been selected.

Spain are seeded in of Group 1 for the EHF Euro 2014 Qualification. They will play in Seville against Portugal on 1 November and then face Switzerland in Schaffhausen on 4 November.
