Women´s Cup Winners Cup Round 2, second leg preview

After SPR Lublin from Poland and Izmir BSB SK from Turkey secured berths in Round 3 of Women´s Cup Winners´ Cup last weekend six more teams are to follow them during the next weekend (20-21 October).

Three national title holders eliminated from the Women´s EHF Champions League last month will try to defend their comfortable advantage from the first leg. Turkey´s Muratpasa Belediyesi SK Antalya travels to Croatia RK Lokomotiva Zagreb with six goal cushion after their home victory 34:28, Slovakian champions from Iuventa Michalovce will make a routine trip to their well-known interleague rivals from the Czech Republic Britterm Veselí nad Moravou having won the first leg by eight goals (30:22) and the Dutch champions SERCODAK Dalfsen will have the easiest task not only playing the second leg against SPE Strovolos at home, but also because they brought a commanding 24 goal lead from the first match in Cyprus (44:20).

The fourth unsuccesful EHF Champions League qualifier Switzerland´s LC Brühl will host both legs against Belarusian HC Gomel in St. Gallen. Two other clubs will have the home advantage doubled over the weekend as Greek O.F.N. Ionias play twice against the Dutch H.V. Quintus in Athens and Macedonian HC Žito Prilep meet Sweden´s H43/Lundagard twice at home.

In total 16 teams entered the Round 2, with another 16 outfits waiting in the Round 3. Four more participants will join the competition´s Last 16 from the Women´s EHF Champions League after all four third placed teams of the Group Matches final standings will be redirected to the Cup Winners´ Cup.

After two years of rule of FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria in the Cup Winners´ Cup there will be a change on the throne, since FTC together with runners-up from Viborg HK and semi-finalists from Dinamo Volgograd play the Women´s EHF Champions League this season. Only one last season´s semi-finalist missed the party in the European top-flight after HC Leipzig did not succeed in the Wild Card tournament in September. As a seeded team the German club will join the Cup Winners´ Cup in the Round 3.
